Synopsis

Based on Francisco Goldman’s book of the same name and executive-produced by Academy Award winners George Clooney and Grant Heslov, The Art of Political Murder tells the story of the 1998 murder of Guatemalan human rights activist Bishop Juan Gerardi and how it stunned a country ravaged by decades of political violence. Just two days after presenting a damning report blaming the atrocities of the civil war on the Guatemalan military, Bishop Gerardi was found dead in his home. The documentary highlights the team of young investigators who take on the case and begin to unearth a web of conspiracy and corruption, entangling the highest levels of government in their pursuit of the truth.

Reviews

"This documentary will leave you breathless from the breadth and depth of its storytelling. It is not an exaggeration to say that it is life-changing, revealing unheard of cruelty as well as unbelievable bravery"
"The movie succeeds at weaving a web in which justice appears impossibly elusive - which gives the ending all the more punch"
Ben Kenigsberg, NEW YORK TIMES

"The Art of Political Murder is urgent and suspenseful"

John Anderson , WALL STREET JOURNAL
""It's a twisty tale with considerable suspense. Justice does prevail - yet this case proves how ruthlessly the powerful and guilty are willing to act in order to prevent that happening.""
Dennis Harvey, 48 HILLS
